There is a sneaky dirty trick that movie makers pull that pisses me off.
Ok. Imagine you watch a movie in the theater and you just love it to death.
So much in fact that you eagerly wait for it to come to video. Finally it arrives in store a few months later ( remember when it took years for a movie to reach video?). You get it and watch it happily. When it is over, you aren’t happy. Something is wrong. In fact something is missing! A scene that you could have SWORN was in the theater version isn’t on the video. Now you watch the movie again with directors commentary ( you bought the dvd after all). And sure enough the director doesn’t even MENTION the deleted scene. And this is the regular version not the “Director’s cut”.
When you see the term “Director’s cut” you already know scenes were cut or changed. But when a movie goes right to video you expect to see “EVERYTHING” you saw in the theater. Now that scene only exists in your memory. Sucks eh?
Well this page is dedicated to resurrecting those scenes that were cut so people will know it once was there. These are all changes I have noticed and, in most cases, I have the DVD or VHS of the movie in question. BTW, those of you people dedicated to servicing the needs of the public ( AKA bootleggers) you may want to hang onto any copies of movies that suffer such deletions. Your old copies may become more valuable later.
.
Ok for starters I mention the movie SPAWN. There is a scene in which our hero gives 2 machine guns to Cogliostro. He then says “ No guts no glory”. In the video it was changed to “Well I wont be needing these”. Wow, how wimpy.
.Wing Commander. Whenever a ship makes a “jump” there are a few heartbeats of time when everything freezes in midair/midmotion. The same thing happens when the hero’s rapier makes a jump to the solar system to warn the earth forces. This section was cut when it went to video.
.
Pitch Black. There is a scene in which Johns is explaining to Carol about the details of Riddicks escape. He also explains that Riddick’s original crime was to kill the other members of a military unit when it was discovered that the life support of their transport was damaged so that it could only support one human for the trip. He killed the others so he could survive and was charged with their murders. This scene was cut from every video version of the movie and not even mentioned in the director’s cut. Later on a scene with Johns and Riddick has Johns mentioning battle surgeons choosing who lives and who dies and they call it triage. Riddick replies that “ when I did it, they kept calling it murder.” This scene makes no sense without the earlier scene being included.
.
Blazing Saddles. Things that were cut from the movie. Scene in which the governor talks to a stagecoach driver. Extra scenes in which Sherrif Bart tries to defeat Mongo. Note. the 30th anniversary version of the movie has a "deleted scenes" secetion which re-includes all those scenes so you can see them again.
.Kindred : The Embraced. Ok this was actually an 8 part mini-series. There is a scene that is in the VHS version of a funeral for grandchild of the main character, Julian Luna. This scene was cut from the DVD version. I have both the VHS and the DVD versions of this.
.
Dragon's World. This was a special on animal planet that was released to DVD. On the show, there is a scene where a male dragon had harmed the eggs (trying to make them come out as females instead of males). When Momma finds out the narator says 'The male dragon realized his presence would no longer be tolerated so he leaves" On the DVD the narrator instead says" realizing something is wrong, the male dragon escapes". Later there is a scene where a Knight and his squire show up to attack. The narrator says something along the lines that the Local Lord came to take care of the dragon. The DVD version never mentions that he is the local Lord. I am sure there are more changes but I only started watching the show from the time the mother Dragon had her eggs til the end.
More to come later.
